NORMANDY D DAY TOUR by minibus |
|
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Let our experienced driver-guide pick you up at your Paris hotel for a journey
through the history of World War II. You will travel to the Beach of Normandy
in a deluxe air-conditioned vehicle. First you will stop at "The Pointe
du Hoc", 90 feet high cliffs, where 225 Rangers landed on the morning of
June 6, 1944. It was one of the strong points of the German fortifications.
Then you will continue your day of remembrance and stop at Colleville sur Mer
to visit the American Cemetery, Overlooking Omaha Beach, which contains over
9,000 white crosses perfectly aligned on 170 acres. A chapel and memorial add
the finishing touches to this moving scene allowing visitors to reflect on the
price of war. You will then leave and stop at other famous WWII locations such
as Arromanches and the vestiges of the artificial harbour (Mulberry Bridge),
Longues-sur-Mer and the German artillery battery, which gave the allied a pounding
on the morning of 6th June. It is actually the only coastal battery to have
kept its guns, giving an impressive picture of what an atlantic wall gun emplacement
was really like. Before returning to your Paris hotel, you will visit the Caen Memorial, a place for reflecting on war in general and
on what WWII meant, and still means, to the world.

   "Wish
there was more time at the sites. Felt a little rushed. But, overall an excellent
experience. Driver very knowledgeable and helpful." Anonymous, United States,

   "We
had a guide that was so knowledgeable that he made it a great trip. He was so
helpful when we had any questions. We would sure recommend your tour to anyone.
He took us to a fantastic restaurant in a little town in where we had local
caught mussels that were wonderful. Our guide was raised in the area and knew
all the history of D-Day. We had a wonderful time." Richard B., United
States, November 2007
   "The
best of the best. It was a 20th century history lesson from beginning to end.
The guide was well versed on the topics and was very helpful with everything
including taking pictures for us. Kevin Z., United States, July 2007
   "My
sister and I took a one-day minivan excursion to Normandy on August 26, 2006.
Our guide was Lionel Rochmann. I have taken many tours in many places over many
years. Mr. Rochmann made a powerful experience more powerful, with his knowledge,
his strong opinions and his humor. My sister and I enjoyed him so much and were
grateful to have him that day. Upon future trips to Paris, we shall see what
other trips you have to offer. If we're lucky, we'll have Mr. Rochmann for a
guide again or, perhaps, someone equally interesting. Bonne journee a tous!"
   "On
Thursday, September 26th, my family took your Normandy/D-day tour. We returned
home to the United States early this morning and the first thing I want to do
is to give you our comments on this wonderful tour. Of the ten days that we
spent in Europe, this tour was the highlight of our trip! Specifically, I wanted
to tell you of our experiences with Thierry (I hope I spelled that correctly),
our guide for the day. He is the perfect tour guide! He was incredibly friendly,
interesting and knowledgeable about the sights that he took us to see. We travelled
with our two daughters, Claire (age 8) and Annie (age 5). It was a very long
day for them, and yet Thierry made us all feel comfortable and relaxed. My daughters
adored him! You should know that he went above and beyond the call of duty when,
after I realized that I had run out of film at Pointe Du Hoc, he took us to
a little store where we could purchase more film, and then took us back to Pointe
Du Hoc so that we could take pictures!! In the United States, this kind of service
is unheard of, and it meant so much to us that he did this for us. His knowledge
of the history of the sights he took us to see is astounding! My husband and
I are very knowledgeable about history, and yet he taught us so many interesting
things that we did not know. Finally, as I previously mentioned, he was so friendly
and such a very nice man to spend a day with. At the end of the tour, we felt
as though we had not only had a wonderful day, but also made a new friend. He
gave each of my daughters a big hug which was incredibly sweet of him and made
them feel very special! We thanked Thierry over and over again, but if you could
give him this e-mail (unfortunately, I do not know how to contact him directly),
and convey our thanks one last time, we would greatly appreciate it! We saw
so many incredible sights during our ten days in France and Belgium, but because
of Thierry, our tour with your company was the best day that we had. Also, please
let him know that if he ever does decide to come to America, he has friends
in Pennsylvania who would be happy to welcome him and his family! Thank you
also, Bian, for all of your help in the planning of the tour. I have nothing
but great things to say about your tour company, and we hope to come back to
France next year and book another tour with you! Sincerely, Cheryl, Brett, Claire
and Annie Bleiler"
   "This
is just a note to thank all of you at paris- trip.com and especially out tourguide
Lionel for the 2 wonderful trips we had with you. We took the Loire Valley and
Normandy D-Day trips. Lionel helped us alot with our questions and was very
professional in every way. Because of this, we will recommend this service to
all our friends in Paris and in the states. It was a pleasure to do business
with you and I look forward to using your services again in the future. Thanks
again" Joe Golub
   "Thanks
so much for such a good tour! Our trip was so lovely, informative and we enjoyed
our driver/guide very much. He was superb. I felt very much like I was there
in 1944 or maybe I was in the middle of a virtual warzone overwhelmed by all
the odds against the Allied troops. How brave all of your countrymen were and
the countries who came to your aid! Our driver/guide was thorough and interesting,
besides very delightful company. Thanks so very much for a wonderful addition
to an already superb visit to your beautiful country. It was worth the time
and money we spent." Sincerely, Rob and Colleen Callicotte
   "Thank
you for two great day trips, Your service is the best - your drivers are the
best. We would (with dought) use your service again . Jo & Rich Thornhill
   "A
very good tour, so much information for just one day, a memory that will last
a lifetime." Nicholas S., Australia, August 2007
   "Our
driver/guide provided very little information. There is so much history and
so much to tell, we were disappointed that he was so quiet. We thought it would
be an informational tour and not just a ride there and back with stops at the
beaches." Anonymous, United States, July 2007 |

"The Pointe du Hoc"
"The Pointe du Hoc was a vital position on the Atlantic
Wall manned by the troops of Fiel-marshall Rommel ; its casemates
of concrete several feet thick, contained six 155 mm guns, capable
of firing on Omaha Beach and, even further away on Utah Beach at
the foot of the Cherbourg Peninsula.."
"On 6th June, at 7:10 am, 225 Rangers, quite unexpected, landed and heroically scaled the cliffs 90 feet high.."
"The Rangers struggled on for two long days and when these heroes were finally reinforced by troops which landed
on the night of 7th and 8th June, only 90 of them remained, many of whom were wounded.."
"The
Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial"
"The Normandy American Cemetery is one of 14 permanent
American World War II military cemeteries on foreign soil. The government
of France granted use of this land, in perpetuity, as a permanent
burial ground."
"The graves area contains ten grave plots, five on each side of
the main mall. interred within them are the remains of 9,387 servicemen
and women. Three hundred and seven of which are unknowns (whose
remain could not be identified).. The Precisely aligned headstones
against the immaculately maintained emerald green lawn convey
an unforgettable feeling of peace and serenity." "Overlooking
Omaha Beach, this place is conducive to meditation and remembrance.
A chapel and a memorial add the finishing touch to this moving scene."
"Omaha Beach"
"The
Caen Peace Memorial is a unique site dedicated to the history
of the 20th century, from the Second World War through to the end
of the Cold War, and a reflection on the challenges of the 21st
century, including peace, geopolitical stakes, the environment."
