WWI - Battle of Arras and Vimy Ridge Tour - Small Group Day Trip from Paris |
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Come and join us
for a day of remembrance. "The First World War has deeply scarred the countryside
and men."
During that day
you will discover this part of the Western Front "The Artois" where "many cemeteries
and memorials remind of these battles and render homage to the soldiers who
fought them. You
will discover major sites where bloody battles took place and one of major significance
to Canadians, "The Canadian National Commemorative Park at Vimy which still
has many scars: trenches, mine craters..."
You will also discover
major sites (memorials, cemeteries and traces of battles) reminding us all of
those other soldiers, from Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand and other
countries who also contributed to give us the peace. This tour will give you
the opportunity to honour them all.

Feedback on 7/4/2012 3 from D.Furlong
This tour was one of the best I''ve had over the years. Our tour guide was outstanding. He had a rich knowledge of the sites, the
history and the issues involved. He was sensitive to the fact that Canadians are often connected personally to these sites. He was respectful, helpful, informative, efficient, and all round excellent. I would recommend this tour to others and also recommend our tour guide, Sebastien. |

PREVIEW

"The Vimy Ridge National Historic Site
of Canada stands on Hill 145, the highest point of the 14-kilometre
long Vimy Ridge[...] The victory at Vimy was a significant landmark
for allied fortunes in the First World War and back home in Canada,
it united canadians and brought honour and pride to the young nation."

"The 107-hectare site surrounding
the monument was largely reforested to prevent erosion. Today's
visitor will find the ground pock-marked with shell holes from artillery
bombardment and mine craters from the fierce underground war. Some
trenches and part of a tunnel have been conserved and the visitor
can picture the magnitude of the task that faced the Canadian Corps
on that distant dawn when history was made."
