Giverny and Monet's Garden Small Group Day Trip from Paris |
|
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Entering Normandy, you will visit Claude Monet's home,
the "Father of Impressionism". Discover the famous gardens created by the impressionist
painter, and the well known Japanese bridge in the midst of its flowered paths
and wather-lily ponds. During this tour, you will also have the opportunity to
visit the "Musée des Impressionismes Giverny".
"Claude Monet's property at Giverny, left by his
son to the Académie des Beaux-arts in 1966, has, after completion of large scale
restoration work, become the Claude Monet Foundation, inaugurated in 1980. The
house, with its pink crushed brick façade, where the leader of the Impressionist
School lived from 1883 to 1926, once again has its colourful décor and intimate
charin of former times. The precious collection of Japanese engravings
is displayed in several rooms, hung in the marmer chosen by the master of Giverny
himself.
The huge Nymphéas studio, a stone's throw from
the house, has also been restored. It contains the Foundation's Shop. The gardens
have been replanted as they once were and offer for the admiration of visitors
the "painting from nature" which Claude Monet's contemporaries considered one
of his masterpieces. The rectangular Clos Normand, with archways of climbing
plants entwined around brilliantly coloured shrubs, lies before the house and
studios, offering from Spring to Autumn the palette of varying colours to the
painter-gardner who was "ecstatic about flowers". Lastly, the Water Garden,
formed by a tributary of the Epte, lies further away, shaded by weeping willows.
With its famous Japanese Bridge, its wistarias, azaleas and its pond, it has
once more become that casket of sky and water which inspired the pictorial universe
of the water lilies." Content: extract

A minivan group of people from around the world and a guide with fluent English, knowledge of art, geography, and history was a super experience.Though our tour was in mid October, the gardens at Giverny were still gorgeous, as was the countryside of Normandy. |
Feedback on 10/3/2012 from Robert & Judy from Orlando
This was a great tour! Monet''s gardens and house were just beautiful --we could have spent many more hours here. Our guide was very knowledgeable about art, architecture and local history. We are American, and the other people on the tour were from South America. During the drive, the guide conversed non-stop in English and Spanish --keeping all of us informed and well entertained. On the way back to Paris from Giverny, he drove us through a couple of lovely small towns so that we could see more of the French countryside. We loved this tour and highly recommend it. |

Bertrand was a wonderful guide, keeping us informed with information as we travelled to Giverney. After we finished at Giverney he took us back to Paris via some back roads and showed us sites we had not expected which were truly amazing. |

I was very pleased with the Giverny tour. Our guide was pleasant, knowledgeable, and accommodating. For example, upon returning, I wanted to go to the Musee D''Orsay and she dropped us off at the d''Orsay instead of at our hotel. She was a very nice lady. I would do it again!!! Thank you! |

Pascal was a superb tour guide and our visit to Giverny was outstanding. He gave us enough time to explore the area and on the way back, took us to see some of the French countryside. It was a marvelous day! I will recommend this to others. Thank you! |

My wife and I, along with our 3 children thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Giverny and Monet''s garden with your company, it was the most comprehensive and time efficent, productive trip that we did in our month of travels through the US nad Europe. I could not think of a single point to help you improve on this particular tour. Well done! |

Though we sent a message on Wednesday, apparently you did not receive it. We said the following: this was a beautiful trip. Lionel was thoroughly enjoyable and personable. He kept us informed of what we were seeing along the way. As an added and unexpected benefit, Lionel took us to see a castle on the return trip, allowing us to see a number of small villages we would not have seen had we stayed on the major highway. We loved seeing Monet''s garden and home, with spectacular water and flower views outdoors and Monet''s personal items in his home. |

We appreciate him showing some "extra" sights along the way like the castle. Thank you for having an efficient, organized trip service. | Management response :
Thank you for joining one of our tour and for sharing with us. Paul |

One of our highlights of the trip. If the rain had ceased it would have been perfect but April showers bring May flowers! |

On Sunday, 25/09/11 I did the Giverny and Monet''s Garden Tour from Paris, it was a small group of 5 people. Our driver was really good, he arrived on time and was able to tell us about the sights along the way. We all had a fantastic day and I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you, Paris trip team. |
Feedback on 8/20/2011 from Joan
We very much enjoyed this trip, and our guide was most pleasant. We could have done without the additional museum, although there were a number of Impressionist paintings we hadn''t seen elsewhere and enjoyed. There was plenty of time to tour and appreciate both the garden and the house, as well as to have a cool drink at one of the restaurants. Overall, a most enjoyable experience. |
Feedback on 7/29/2011 from Linda
Our minibus tour began on a wet rainy July day, and we were wondering if heading to Monet''s garden was such a good idea. Our guide gave commentary about Monet’s life during the ride, which was informative. Fortunately it was not raining in Giverny and we had a wonderful time explopring the garden and house. The gardens were fabulous and the array of colour amazing. No wonder Monet was inspired to paint. There were plenty of people visiting, however, it was not too crowded, perhaps the rain had kept the crowds away. We spent over 2 hours in the garden & house. Also included in the price was a visit to the Impressionist Museum. This small museum exceeded expectations and had some wonderful paintings on display. This was definately worth a visit, and I only wish we had allowed ourselves a little longer to browse. The village of Giverney was very picturesque and it would have been nice to have spent sometime looking around.

Enjoyed the visit to Giverny very much. Partucularly appreciated the rural countryside detour en route back to Paris. Jean was very knowledgable and answered our many questions. |

Laurent, our guide, was punctual and a very good driver. He told us a great deal about Monet and pointed out interesting things along the way. We were the first ones at Monet''s home when it opened and Laurent advised us to go to the pond area first, before others got there. It was wonderful to be the only ones there and to enjoy the tranquility by ourselves. The tour was just the right amount of time, enabling us to enjoy the gardens, Monet''s home, the Impressionist Museum, and have a bit of refreshment before returning to Paris. Happily we saw the field of poppies across from the parking lot just before we left. The guide should mention it and suggest seeing it before leaving Giverny. Excellent tour. Thank you. |

I want to let you know how much I enjoyed my tour T05 of Giverny on last Wednesday 29 April which was made so enjoyable by the tour guide, Aimee (sorry don''t know correct spelling), who picked me up from Plaza Tour Eiffel Hotel. She was a lovely lady who was very kind to me and helpful and her information was so interesting. Thank you to Aimee.

We enjoyed our afternoon at Giverny very much - (just sorry that there were so many others enjoying the gardens too) -
Paris Trip was very accessible, accommodating and professional. Our guide, Francesca, was very knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy the stories she shared with us about Monet and his life. She was also a great driver!!
Thanks for a memorable day at a special place – we would not have managed without you!

We certainly enjoyed our day trip to Giverny and Monet''s Garden. Our, driver, Fredéric, was prompt in arriving and his van was immaculate. He was a veritable font of information and his ''spiel'' started immediately upon pickup in Paris. He was keen to share his vast store of history and culture.
While we felt that we received great value for our trip regarding the background story of Paris and its environs, we would have liked more time to view the gardens and house, visit the tea garden for a coffee and check out the gift store. We also had to race through the excellent museum in order to meet our driver at return time.
Fredéric wanted to make sure that we saw Monet''s gravesite and to direct us to the water garden, but this used up more of our precious time. Also, we made a stop to use the washroom; had we known, we could have used the toilets adjacent to Monet''s house which again would have given us more time on site (we had about 1 1/2 hours).
That said, the information that Fredéric imparted has remained with us and pops up in our brains. For example, we were on our way to the Place Vendôme and saw the building, now a hotel, with the stamp on it stating it was formerly the site of the Embassy of Texas, the country, which France was the first to recognize. This is information that came from Fredéric''s tour.
In summary, we were able to have a look at Giverny and Monet''s Garden and, though the ride should have been shorter (we had a bit of a tour of Paris in order to collect other tour-goers which took a chunk of time from the destination itself) at least it was great viewing with Fredéric pointing out all interesting sites. |

The trip was very enjoyable. The guide is very knowledgable on the history of Paris and the mini city tour was a pleasant addition that we did not expect. The garden with its lovely flowers was so refreshing. Only if the instruction on estmated smount of time we should spent at each location at Giverny was made clearer, it would be perfect. |

Great trip. Guide (forgot name) was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed. |

I attended Giverny tour on Thursday, 13 September 2012. It was a beautiful day in Giverny and Monet''''s Garden was delightful. The trip provided just the right amount of time to wander through the gardens and house - I didn''''t bother with the admission to the Musee des Impressionismes as I was so taken with the garden. In hindsight I felt the guide was a little withdrawn when compared to the guide I had for my trip to Versilles (it would have been niced to be told a bit more about Monet, his life and work on the way there). |
Feedback on 5/24/2012 from Martha
The visit to Monet''s gardens was nice. The van was comfortable. The best things were the weather and the beautiful site, which of course is not in the control of the tour company. The guide was knowledgeable and gave us good advice on what to see first. It was a lovely day and will be the memories for some daydreams for years. |

We enjoyed our trip to Giverny and Monet''s house and gardens very much. The weather was very rainy, but by good fortune the rain stopped and we has a period of sun while we toured the beautiful gardens. This was a most convenient way to see these sights from Paris--direct transport from our hotel, all tickets provided, no waiting, pleasant van, good driver. A small disappointment is that the Museum of Impressionism has no permanent collection any longer, Another small criticism: the driver arrived 20 minutes early and we nearly missed him because he drove around the block; we thought he wasn''t coming back. |
Feedback on 11/9/2011 from Mrs Solange Shapiro
An excellent afternnoon trip with a most knowledgable guide. Giverny was as expected and a treat but the journey back was equally interesting going through the little villages and seeing the houses built into the rocks etc.
Perhaps allowing time so that one can actually stop and get off the bus to spend time looking at the Seine, the Castle etc and take photos would improve the trip. |
Feedback on 11/7/2011 from Phillip
Tour was very well done. Pickup at the hotel was on time. The guide gave us a good tour of the French countryside en route to Giverny and back to Paris. |
Feedback on 9/1/2011 3 from Helen Ablett
The Giverney and Monet''s Garden day trip:
The day was on the whole wonderful, our guide was great and France could not have turned on a nicer warm sunny day. The tour could have been improved by including guided information around the house and garden belonging to Monet - this was left to our own devices and we missed out a bit on this. I give it four stars because just to wander through the gardens, as crowded as it was, was just beautiful. |
Feedback on 6/29/2011 from Kary
I had the mini-van tour to Giverny. The van was clean and confortable and on time. My driver was very nice and spoke English which helped me considerably. The other people in the van were nice too, while I know ParisTrip had nothing to do with them being nice but it made the trip even more pleasant. Definitely recommend them and will keep them in mind for the next trip to Paris. |

Springtime flowers at Giverny are spectaculalr! Additionally Cecelia was a wonderful driver and excellent guide. |
Feedback on 5/17/2011 from Anssi Holtari
Good trip, excellent driver / guide. Things to improve - 1.5 hours in Giverny is not enough, at least 2 hours needed
- impressionist museum not necessary |

This was a very pleasnt and relaxing side trip. It was particularly nice for my wife who enjoys the flowers and gardens |
Feedback on 6/15/2012 from Barry
Very good tour to Giverney. We had selected an English speaking tour. There were two Americans and four Australians. There were also two Germans as well. On the journey to Giverney Florence spent approx 30 minutes talking/practising her German. I felt this was to the detriment of the rest of the tour group. |
